its used to produce frequencies of the string. you're thinking of pitch. pitch is how high or low the note is. frequencies are things like "bass" "treble" "mids" and such. kind of like the characteristic of the note you're playing, not the note itself. a tweeter is used to produce the higher frequencies of a sound (6k-10k to 20k hertz).
Nonetheless woofers are included in speaker design to produce the low-end and are typically joined by a tweeter (in 2-way speakers) or a tweeter and midrange driver (in 3-way speakers). To produce the lowest frequencies, woofers need to be big. A woofer of 12-inch diameter or more is likely capable of reaching down to 20 Hz.
